Deafblind International (DbI) is pleased to share the successful completion of the ICF Core Sets for Deafblindness, developed within the framework of the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF).
This significant milestone represents a critical advancement in the global understanding and recognition of deafblindness as a unique and distinct disability. The development of these ICF Core Sets will play an essential role in guiding the provision of appropriate and targeted services within both the health and education sectors.
Furthermore, the Core Sets serve as a foundational tool for raising awareness, promoting inclusion, and ensuring that the specific needs of individuals with deafblindness are properly identified, supported, and addressed across policy and practice.
DbI extends its sincere gratitude to all partners and contributors who have supported this important work and looks forward to the positive impact these Core Sets will have on improving the quality of life for people with deafblindness worldwide.
The ICF Core Sets for Deafblindness are also a central basis for the ongoing project to establish a global definition of deafblindness.
