Social Justice & The Right to Education

Social Justice & The Right to Education

This week is remarkable. 20 February is World Day of Social Justice. It was designated by the UN General Assembly in 2007 to remind us of the need to build a fairer and more equitable world. Obviously, a huge amount of work remains to be done in this regard, and the political circumstances have become more difficult.

21 February was the birthday of the philosopher John Rawls. His “Theory of Justice” is undoubtedly relevant and apart from “social class” also conceivable in other ways (e.g. for “disability”, gender, sexual orientation, skin tone, etc., as well as intersectionally).

Guaranteeing human rights for all is fundamental to social justice. And the right to education obviously plays a very important role in this.

Unfortunately, the right to education for children with deafblindness is still very often violated. The WFDB and DbI presidia therefore call for the immediate respect of the right to education of all children with deafblindness.
